Equality Tasmania Reports
This report details findings from a community survey that explored transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender diverse people’s experiences of pursuing medical gender affirmation in Tasmania.
The aim of this report is to help improve gender affirming care in Tasmania by providing recommendations to healthcare providers and the Tasmanian government based on research findings.
This research was a community project completed for Equality Tasmania by researchers and community members volunteering their time, and received ethics approval from the University of Tasmania.
The report was released on March 31st 2023 to coincide with Transgender Day of Visibility.

Conversion practices briefing
Equality Tasmania supports survivors of conversion practices who seek to end these practices. We do this through
– arranging meetings with decision-makers
– supporting survivors to advocate and lobby
– convening fortnightly support groups for survivors
– reaching out to faith communities
An inquiry by the Tasmanian Law Reform institute has revealed that some Tasmanian churches still conduct conversion practices, while others believe a ban would violate their “religious freedom”.
